Need Analysis

The disconnect between education and real life has never been felt more acutely than during the pandemic lockdown. When simple household appliances like toasters, mixers, etc., stopped functioning, or there were problems in the plumbing or electrical wiring, it was a challenge for even well-qualified persons to do the repairing, primarily because of a lack of know-how about how these simple things worked.

The traditional education system has not yet established a real connection between the classroom and real life. The experiments that children carry out in school, though, are meant to help them understand the concepts they have learned in books, yet they are taught only as practical experiments.

For example, students may know the concept of friction and also that it plays a part in a moving bicycle, but they still don’t understand how it works until they dismantle one and actually see the internal parts and how they all work.

Solution

A hands-on, activity-based project, which envisages achieving the goals mentioned above by establishing Repair Café’ or ‘दुरुस्ती कट्टा’ on the premises of the educational institution.

The ‘Repair Café’ will be equipped with all the necessary tools and will be run on the lines of a hobby class periodicity (weekly or fortnightly), and duration will be decided as per the calendar of the school. Students may also bring in non-working items from their own homes and repair them here, under the guidance of experts.
