When we want to exactly duplicate a product from a sample, it works best if we systematically dismantle the product physically and build up a list of material in hierarchical structure as we take apart the major assemblies and then further break apart each of those assemblies. This clearly brings out the detailed structure of the process of making full product from its constituent parts. This also makes it easy to create documents related to production and quality control documents as well. This type of reverse engineering applied to manufacturing process development is explained by example. Participants are encouraged to actually do these exercises during the session and understand the power of this technique
